Mycena filopes (Bull. ex Fr.) Kummer non s. Pearson syn. M. vitilis (Fr.) Quél. s. Kühn., Rick. Fädiger Helmling Iodine Bonnet. Cap 1.5–2.5cm across, conico-convex becoming bell-shaped, grey-brown, paler and striate towards the margin. Stem 40–70 x 1–2mm, concolorous with cap or paler, whitish at apex, base covered in fine white hairs and rooting. Flesh thin, whitish. Smell like iodine. Gills crowded, whitish, greyish towards their base. Cheilocystidia sac-like with apical finger-like processes. Spore print white. Spores ellipsoid, often almond-shaped, amyloid, 7.5–10 x 4.2–7.2um. Basidia generally two-spored. Habitat in mixed woodland, usually attached to buried twigs. Season autumn. Common. Edibility unknown -avoid. Distribution, America and Europe.
